One of many beautiful beaches on Harris and Lewis but it’s one of the quieter ones as access is harder than most. Worth the effort though.Full review by Tantaluss

We are planning to visit in first or second week of February. Is this right time to go? Will we get snow and ice on the way and around the place? What is the best mode of communication from Edinburgh and any idea of cost for weekend trip?
A:
You could get all sorts of weather. Maybe in the same day. However, I wouldn't have thought much snow in this area but wind and rain and chilly are almost a cert.

Tracey we have been to Harris a couple of times before but not yet been physically on Scarista beach , we are going soon - with our dog and I noticed you mention dogs in your review, can I ask what route you accessed the beach as I want to avoid any fields where there are too many sheep/cattle ( have done this with our boy in the past and he is ok on the lead but any tips appreciated) regards Fiona

To answer my own question !! Park across from the red post box in the layby ( not the passing place) between Scarista house and the church and go through a sequence of 3 gates to the beach , the route is well sign posted after the second gate. Keep your dog on a short lead until you are on the beach in case of any sheep/cattle though we did not see any during our visit.

I am trying to plan a trip to Harris for a special wedding anniversary. Neither my husband or I have been before and am looking for some advice. My husband is disabled (not a wheelchair) and I am trying to find out if you can drive and park beside the beaches or is it long walks from car parks. Driving isn't a problem but walking is. Also, we would be travelling by ferry from Uig to Harris. Can anyone recommend the best area to stay? Any advice would be greatly appreciated, I've no idea where to start planning this. thanks

Harris - Hogabost beach is literally on the doorstep of the car park its a beautiful beach. My Dad has walking issues but he also managed Luskentyre beach & Hussiness ( I may have spelled that wrong - sorry ) Scarista beach is a little harder to access with walking issues. once you have been to Harris you will fall in love with its spectacular beauty & beautiful beaches and wildlife.
Q:
How do you access the beach?
A:
There are several ways to the beach the best one is close to the church and the Cemetery is a good place to park your car.
