The Kansas Jayhawks played their best game of the season Monday night in Allen Fieldhouse, upsetting No. 1-ranked Arizona 82-78 to extend their win streak to eight games. And they did it all without star freshman Darryn Peterson, who was out due to flu-like symptoms, a KU spokesperson said shortly before the game.
“Crazy environment,” Arizona center Motiejus Krivas said. “The crowd is like their sixth player. It’s really hard to play here.”
Kansas’ win over No. 1 Arizona on Monday night, its first ever against a top-ranked team in Allen Fieldhouse in a showdown Bill Self called “as big a game that college basketball has had” this year, was so momentous an occasion as to inspire some admittedly uncharacteristic behavior from the head coach.
Fans from different parts of the country noted Kansas fans didn’t rush the court after Jayhawks knocked off No. 1 Arizona.

A mediocre Utah team (13-11, 5-8 entering the game) tripped the the Jayhawks 74-67 on Feb. 15, 2025 at Huntsman Center in Salt Lake City. BYU (17-8, 8-6 entering the game) completed the sweep by annihilating the Jayhawks 91-57 on Feb. 18 at Marriott Center in Provo.
Although Kansas will host Arizona in the iconic Allen Fieldhouse tomorrow, the Jayhawks opened as rare home underdogs against the Wildcats.
