A winter storm threatens to bring a mix of snow, ice and freezing temperatures to metro Atlanta. Atlanta Fire Rescue says danger can accompany those conditions especially when you are trying to keep your home warm.

Right now, we are still 48 hours away from the winter event, but as we get closer, it is likely to be upgraded to a Winter Weather Advisory or a Winter Storm Warning.

Areas in the north Georgia mountains will see between 3-6 inches of snow with locally higher amounts possible farther north into the mountains. Snowfall totals of 1-2 inches will be common around I-20 with 0.1-0.25 inch of ice possible. The northern suburbs in metro Atlanta will see between 2-3 inches of snow.

Any wintry precipitation in Oklahoma and Texas should end by midday. Snow will spread from the Mid-South region into Kentucky, Tennessee, far northern parts of Mississippi, Alabama and Georgia into North Carolina and upstate South Carolina.

The FOX 5 Storm Team has declared Friday and Saturday Storm Alert Days due to the threat of winter weather in Metro Atlanta and North Georgia.

The second major winter storm of 2025 will target the south-central and southeastern United States into the weekend and will create dangerous conditions on the roads as well as a slew of flight delays and cancellations from Dallas to Atlanta and Charlotte,

A significant winter storm is expected to impact Atlanta, Georgia, and surrounding areas later this week. Impactful accumulations of snow, sleet and freezing rain from early Friday into early Saturday is likely.
