Drones spotted above Belgian airbase were ‘spying’ on military planes, defense minister says
Several drones spotted above a Belgian airbase over the weekend were there “to spy” on military fighter jets, the country’s defense minister said Sunday, at a time when European nations are on high alert for airspace intrusions.
The country's Defence Minister Theo Francken said it looked like an espionage operation, but he wanted to be "cautious" about speculating.
Belgium's defense minister said that more counter-uncrewed aerial systems "are urgently needed" after three drones spied on the Kleine-Brogel base.
The drones are trying “to see where the F-16s are, where the ammunition is, and other highly strategic information,” Belgian Defense Minister Théo Francken told RTBF.
