A young Utah man suspected of killing the conservative activist Charlie Kirk at a university forum has been taken into custody, as U.S. leaders reacted with sorrow and frustration over the latest outbreak of political violence sweeping the country.
The slain conservative activist forged connections between Trump’s MAGA movement and nationalist, populist counterparts in Asia and Europe.
President Donald Trump announced Friday on “FOX & Friends” that an arrest was made in the manhunt for Charlie Kirk’s assassin. “I think, with a high degree of certainty, we have him in custody” Trump said.
The conservative activist had recently spoken at conferences in Asia. His message also resonated in Europe, and especially Britain, which has seen a rise in right-wing ideology.

Authorities are still searching for the shooter who killed Kirk during an event at Utah Valley University. Authorities said they recovered a high-powered rifle believed to have been used in the shooting and learned new details about a suspect from video being analyzed.
