Authorities said he was considering buying the boat and was taking it for a test drive at about 5:30 p.m. Monday, along with the boat’s owner.

Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli of the Sheriff’s Office said the men were driving the boat at a high rate of speed when they turned suddenly.
