Research finds that younger workers today show job retention patterns that closely mirror previous generations at the same stage of their careers.
The National Retail Federation expects retailers to hire between 265,000 and 365,000 seasonal workers this year, down from 442,000 in 2024. Challenger, Gray & Christmas, a research firm, reported that holiday staffing could slip to its lowest level in more than a decade.
The pace of U.S. job growth accelerated more than expected in September, and the unemployment rate increased, indicating the labor market remained on the sluggish side, while expectations the Federal Reserve was unlikely to cut rates in December remained largely unchanged.
