The first phase of assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir is proceeding peacefully with a turnout expected to exceed 60%. Over 23 lakh voters are set to decide the fate of 219 candidates. This marks the first assembly elections since the abrogation of Article 370.

Highest voter participation in 35 years, polling peacefully across 24 constituencies with Kishtwar leading at 77.23%; Election Commission ensures inclusivity and security

The Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha has extended hearty congratulations to the voters of first phase of Assembly Election for the record turnout. In a social media post, the Lieutenant Governor said,

The first phase of Jammu and Kashmir assembly polls recorded a voter turnout of 58.19% by 5 pm on Wednesday. Kishtwar had the highest turnout at 77.23%, while Pulwama recorded the lowest at 43.87%. This election marks the first since Article 370 was abrogated.

Amidst enthusiasm among the electorate, 11.11 per cent polling was recorded upto 9 AM in all 24 assembly constituencies across seven districts of J&K that went to polls on Wednesday in the first phase of election.
