Severe storms are barreling toward Texas a cold front sweeps the state. For South Central and Central Texas, including the stretch of towns from San Antonio to Austin, this means increased risk of damaging winds and large hail. Plus, excessive rainfall could lead to isolated flash flooding, and a tornado can't be ruled out.
San Antonio expects mixed weather, with potential storms and high winds this weekend, followed by sunny days ahead.
The kickoff times for several San Antonio football games, including Harlan-Taft and Brennan-Stevens, have been moved up because of forecasted inclement weather.
Burnet High School also rescheduled their football game to 6 p.m. ahead of tonight's storms. Meanwhile just outside of Austin, San Marcos CISD announced on social media that the high school's homecoming football game has been moved up to 6:30 p.m.
San Antonio's weather will fluctuate, with sunny conditions turning to possible thunderstorms later in the week.
Rain chances in our region will peak by late Friday night, and we have a better than 50-50 chance of at least an inch of rainfall in San Antonio.
"Today's forecast continues to show a low (1 out of 5) chance of severe thunderstorms, primarily from late evening into the overnight hours," the NWS Amarillo office said. "While the risk of a tornado remains very low, it cannot be entirely discounted."
The potential for storms moving through the Hill Country and San Antonio area Friday night has prompted some school districts to adjust start times for high school football games.
San Antonio has not recorded significant rainfall for the past 44 days, but that dry spell could come to an end by this weekend with a cold front.
Muertos Fest, scheduled for this weekend at Hemisfair, will go on despite a significant chance of severe thunderstorms late Friday afternoon through Saturday, organizers told the Current.
