A tree ultimately broke his fall, saving the man from an additional, potentially fatal, 100-foot fall to the caldera floor

The 30-year-old man, whose name was not released, was on the Byron Ledge Trail when he wandered off the marked path and fell over a steep cliff last Wednesday, the National Park Service wrote in a post on Facebook.
