With multiple massive wildfires currently raging across the Los Angeles area, the parallels to what Oregon has faced — and may face again — have not been lost on state lawmakers.

Oregon fire experts have finalized their redo of state maps showing wildfire hazard areas, showing that about 1,600 properties are in high-risk spots that could be subject to new building and landscape codes.

Final maps were released Tuesday by the Oregon Department of Forestry showing the wildfire hazard for every property in the state.

About 6% of the state's 1.9 million tax lots meet criteria where new codes on defensible space and fire hardening will apply.
