The Wicked director recently recounted how he conceived an appearance for the original Broadway musical's stars Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth.

"Wicked" is everywhere. Since debuting at Thanksgiving, the movie, an adaptation of the blockbuster musical, has earned more than $635 million at the global box office and earned four Golden Globe nominations and eleven Critics' Choice Award nominations (including Best Picture).

Wicked director Jon M. Chu has revealed one of the first ideas for Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth's cameos in the movie. In the movie adaptation of the musical, the actresses, who originated the characters of Elphaba and Glinda on the Broadway stage,

Idina Menzel and Kristen Chenoweth were almost cast as Galinda's parents in 'Wicked'. The two actresses - who originated the roles of Elphaba and Galinda when the iconic musical debuted on Broadway in 2003 - were brought back for a special appearance in the recent blockbuster film adaptation as they performed 'One Short Day' with successors Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande.

It would be difficult for Jon M. Chu to mount a film adaptation of Wicked without paying some tribute to the Broadway sensation’s original stars, Idina Menzel (as Elphaba) and Kristin Chenoweth (as Glinda).
