President-elect Donald Trump on Sunday vowed to release records related to former President John F. Kennedy, Robert F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King Jr.’s assassinations "in the coming days."

Donald J. Trump has said that once he is sworn in as president on Monday, he will quickly release records relating to the assassinations of President John F. Kennedy, his brother Robert F. Kennedy and the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. as part of measures to restore confidence in government.

During his first term in office, Trump made similar promises to release the investigation reports into those high-profile assassinations. He released some documents related to President Kennedy’s death, but for national security reasons he was ultimately convinced by the CIA and FBI to keep most of the documents classified.

Trump had made a similar promise during his 2017 to 2021 term, and he did release some documents related to JFK's 1963 murder. However, he later kept a significant chunk of documents under wraps, citing national security concerns following pressure from CIA and FBI.

During his first term, Trump had considered releasing the JFK files in alignment with the 1992 Kennedy Assassination Records Collection Act, which mandated full disclosure by 2017.

Trump, who returns to the White House on Monday, promised on the campaign trail to release classified intelligence and law enforcement files on the 1963 assassination of JFK, as America's 35th president is widely known.
