Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass issued a curfew for parts of downtown as anti-ICE demonstrations continued for a fifth consecutive day, some of which have turned violent between protesters and law enforcement.

Protesters and police faced off in scattered protests in downtown Los Angeles for a fourth day on Monday.

Activists have become further inflamed by President Trump’s decision to send the National Guard and Marines to California over the objection of the state’s governor, Gavin Newsom.

Gavin Newsom is suing Donald Trump over the mobilization of the National Guard to quell immigration-related protests in Los Angeles.The complaint, filed Monday by California Attorney General Rob Bonta on behalf of the Governor against the President,

“We’re at an inflection point in the country’s history,” said South Carolina state Rep. JA Moore, a lawmaker who has been deeply involved in his state’s early presidential primary politics.

Newsom called the deployments reckless and “disrespectful to our troops” in a post on the social platform X.
