NORTH TEXAS – North Texas is bracing for a mix of snow and sleet. A winter storm warning went into effect Thursday morning and continues until 12 p.m. Friday. The warning includes Denton, Collin, Dallas and Tarrant counties.

And even with delays likely expected, Ellzey said it would take extreme weather to shut down a major U.S. airport like DFW: A blizzard with high winds, a major power outage or "zero-zero" visibility conditions, meaning fog is too heavy for pilots to see above or in front of their aircraft.

Parts of North Texas have already seen a significant amount of snow, with more expected in the coming hours. Snow has been falling in Denton and Collin County for a decent amount of the day, while Tarrant County and Dallas County have seen less snow. Areas like Celina and Bonham saw a reported six inches of snow by 5 p.m.

North Texas is experiencing a mix of snow and sleet​, causing road closures and traffic delays across the Metroplex.

DALLAS — The prospect of snow brings both excitement and, particularly since the February 2021 winter storm that left millions of Texans in the dark, anxiety in North Texas. Snow began falling Thursday morning across North Texas with between 2 and 4 inches of snow and sleet expected in the DFW area.

Storm Warning has been posted for the impending winter weather that’s expected to move in Thursday. While it may begin as a rain/sleet/snow mix, snow will overspread much of North Texas through the day and continue Thursday night.
