A Berwyn gas station exploded Thursday afternoon after a downed power line struck the site just moments after a storm rolled through the area.

The gas station market on Ogden and Oak Park avenues exploded into flames as high as 20 feet and was destroyed, according to witnesses. No one was injured in the afternoon blast, said Berwyn Ald. Micah Caldwell, 1st. The fire had been contained by Thursday evening, but was not extinguished.

Neighboring residents and businesses were evacuated, police said, with firefighters working to battle the blaze. Minutes later, the gas lines exploded, police said, leading to the "complete collapse of the gas station," and nearby windows shattered.
