Three new wildfires have started in southern California since Monday as dry conditions and destructive winds continued to create a high fire risk in Los Angeles and Ventura Counties. At least 24 people have been killed in the disaster and dozens more are missing.

New wildfires have erupted in California as thousands of firefighters continue their work to extinguish other deadly blazes that have been raging across the Los Angeles area since last week.

President-elect Donald Trump, who takes office Monday, has been highly critical of California officials’ efforts to prevent such wildfires. He hasn’t threatened to take away any fire-related aid, though has threatened to withhold aid to the state in the past.

Areas of Los Angeles County in Southern California are under mandatory evacuation orders following multiple fires that have started.

President-elect Donald Trump has accused California Gov. Gavin Newsom of prioritizing environmental policies over public safety, and claimed that FEMA lacked the funds to respond to the crisis.

President Joe Biden has announced the creation of two California national monuments that will honor Native American tribes while shielding picturesque mountains and deserts from mining and energy development.

Biden signed proclamations designating a monument in Southern California's and another in far northern California.
