The Mets upgraded at center field by acquiring Cedric Mullins from Baltimore at the trade deadline, but that came after taking a bigger shot that didn’t work out. According to Dan Hayes of The Athletic, the Mets were one of six teams that contacted Byron Buxton ’s agent about the possibility of the Twins outfielder waiving his no-trade clause.

Mullins marks the fifth player traded by the 50-59 Orioles this month, joining relievers Bryan Baker, Seranthony Dominguez and Andrew Kittredge and infielder Ramon Urías. The club later traded DH Ryan O'Hearn and outfielder Ramon Laureano to the San Diego Padres.
