State, county and city crews are preparing as much as possible, even before the snow begins to fall. The National Weather Service says it could come as early as 8 a.m. Jan. 10, though the winter storm warning doesn't start until 10 a.m.

Assistant Chief Mark Wilbanks said the Knoxville Fire Department is limiting its responses down to quick-response vehicles once the snow starts falling.

Knox County crews and residents are taking lessons learned during the 2024 snowstorm into this year’s anticipated winter weather.

The Knox County Highway Department covers nearly 2,000 miles of roadway, excluding state routes like Chapman Highway or the surrounding interstates.
