A 9-year-old boy was shot and killed in Newark on Friday evening. It happened at around 5:30 p.m. on Osborne Terrace near Yates Avenue. The Essex County prosecutor's office said the child was struck by a bullet as he was getting out of a car.

An 8-year-old boy was dead Friday evening following a shooting in Newark, county prosecutors told NBC New York. Details of the shooting were limited, but officials from the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office said the young boy had died and that an adult male was also shot.

Police continue to search for the gunman who shot and killed a 9-year-old boy in Newark, New Jersey on Friday.
