Today is International Roma Day, a time to celebrate Roma culture, history, and heritage. This day was first marked in 1990 in Serock, Poland, during a meeting of Roma leaders. April 8 was chosen to remember the first big Roma gathering in London in 1971, where the Roma flag and anthem, Djelem, Djelem, were introduced.
