The basement of Carlisle Castle's keep in the city of Carlisle, Cumbria, England. These rooms were mainly used for storage, but it is said that during the Jacobite Rising of 1745/46, they were used to hold Jacobite prisoners. The prisoners were crammed together in complete darkness, so the story goes, and were so dehydrated that they licked the moisture from the stones.
