After a 2014 flood destroyed the dam on Mound Creek inside Blue Mounds State Park, DNR crews worked with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to restore the creek to a more natural state. The hope was to create habitat for aquatic life such as the Topeka Shiner (a federally-endangered species), the plains topminnow (a state-threatened species) and pond mussel (also a state-threatened species).
